Harmel Welcomes Kate Avery

Harmel Academy of the Trades is pleased to welcome Kate Avery as Director of Outreach and Operations. In this role, Ms. Avery will oversee Harmel’s marketing communications and development program, and keep day-to-day operations moving forward in the administration office.

A creative problem solver, Ms. Avery has over a decade of professional experience in sales and marketing working for local and regional small businesses, as well as a keen understanding of fundraising from experience in both grassroots and established educational-cultural nonprofits.

She has a heart for inspiring and connecting the body of Christ on mission, and for building mission-driven brands and organizations. Ms. Avery holds a BA in History from Michigan State University and a Master’s in History from Northeastern University in Boston. She serves on the board of the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation, helping to fund collections and programming for the city’s common use and enjoyment.

Ms. Avery is co-founder & owner of The Cottage Coworking Club, a coworking community, physically located in downtown Grand Rapids. The Cottage offers an encounter with beauty, goodness, and truth through the dignity of work and human connection and is slated to open in late 2024. Ms. Avery is currently on a parish pilgrimage, connecting to the body of Christ by encountering each parish in the Grand Rapids diocese for Sunday Mass. This pilgrimage is expected to wrap up mid year 2025.
