24 Minutes of Harmel
Thank you for another great 24 Minutes of Harmel go kart race! Next race is TBD.
What’s the 24 Minutes of Harmel?
Go karts. Balloons. Paintball guns.
This endurance race takes place at the end of the Harmel Academy academic year. Students, staff, and the wider community are invited to build (or buy, or improve a used) kart and race for the Harmel Cup. The 24 Minutes of Harmel combines technical skill, strategy, and sheer joy.
Where Did this Idea Come From?
Part of our Humanities course work is studying the film Ford v. Ferrari which depicts the famous Ford victory in 1966 at the fabled 24 Hours of Le Mans. Our shorter version (minutes, not hours!) is a blend of hands-on project-based learning, imagination, and competition. It is a culmination of much of the skilled trades competence gained over the year.
Bonus: a live version of the beloved (oft practiced, oft studied) video game “Mario Kart”? As a capstone to our semester? YES.
Spectators most welcome!
Bring your picnic blanket and/or lawn chair and help us make the observation deck by observing! This is not a ticketed event, but free will donations will be graciously accepted. Thank you for your interest in what Harmel Academy is all about and thank you for support!
