Our Electrician Program prepares students to work as an electrician in residential, commercial, or industrial environments. Our unique program permits students to work every other week with local contractors as a paid electrical apprentice.
Students who complete the two-year course on campus will have completed the Related Technical Instruction required for electrical apprentices in the State of Michigan. These hours, along with their time working as an apprectice, will count toward the 8,000 hour of on-the-job experience that is required to take the State of Michigan Journeyman licensing exam.
Students learn about:
Electrical theory· Hand and power tools· Electrical safety · Wiring, devices and boxes · Raceways, conduit and fittings · Lighting systems and energy efficient design · Blueprint reading and estimating · The National Electrical Code · Branch circuits, feeders and services · Motors and control systems · Testing and troubleshooting · etc
Completing this course will enable a student to work as a qualified apprentice for:
Electrical Contractor · Industrial Manufacturer· Service Contractor · Electrical Utility
