44 Days of St. Joseph – March 29 – Minister of Salvation

St. Joseph, as the servant of Christ, is also a servant of Christ’s mission. His service is therefore a participation in Christ’s work, even while that service is, for most of his life, seemingly unremarkable.

But this is, once again, a sign of Christ’s humility, generosity, and love. The “unremarkable life” is take up by Christ into the great sweet of his saving act. The ordinary becomes a servant to and means of the extraordinary. The working guy becomes “a minister of salvation,” precisely in and through his vocation as a working guy, a father, and a husband.

Seen in this light, every act, therefore, can be an occasion of joy. Every act of the ordinary, “unremarkable life,” can shine with the glory of the Saviour.
